Ex-chief loses suit over firing in 2006
The state Supreme Court ruled against former Jefferson police Chief Darren Glenn on Monday in his suit against city officials, who he maintains fired him without due process.
Glenn, who was dismissed in 2006 amid a scandal about demotions and misuse of government property, sued the Jefferson City Council and former City Administrator David Clabo in 2008, saying they fired him without giving him a chance to clear his name.
"Our attorneys are still doing some investigation into the ruling, but they've indicated to us that (this case) is over," current City Administrator John Ward said Monday.
The high court agreed with the city's attorneys that Glenn should have gotten the Jackson County Superior Court to order the city to give him a chance to clear his name instead of filing his lawsuit.
A Jackson County Superior Court judge ruled in December 2009 that Glenn had exhausted all the options available to him before he decided to sue the city. Attorneys for the city appealed that decision to the state Supreme Court, which has been considering the case since this summer.
Justices voted 4-3 against Glenn, overturning the lower court's ruling.
